| Cob Building Workshops Learn how to use "cob" building techniques to create hand-sculpted benches, walls, ovens and art for the garden or patio. Cob is a natural building material that has been used to construct homes throughout the world for centuries. An earthen mixture of clay/soil, sand and straw, cob is extremely strong and durable. It does not rot or burn and if properly protected, cob will last indefinitely. Since cob is made with clay/soil, it is a very malleable material to build with and can be shaped into any form imagined. This allows you to create beautiful, hand-sculpted walls, benches, ovens, fireplaces, etc. During our workshops, participants can expect to learn all you need to know about the cob building process; from finding raw materials to applying protective earthen plasters. The workshops are labor intensive, giving you ample "hands on" build experience. We will also spend time discussing foundations and natural design principles. A great introduction to natural building, these workshops will leave you with the skills and confidence to start building your own cob project.
